Effective from: 1 October 2026
This is a courtesy translation of the Slovak original. In case of any difference, the Slovak version prevails.
1. Introductory provisions
1.1 These terms and conditions govern the use of the website www.kniholap.sk and the Kniholap mobile app (together “Kniholap”). By using Kniholap, the user agrees to them.
1.2 Kniholap is operated by:
PREMIUM studio s. r. o., Hrachová 17960/69B, 821 05 Bratislava – mestská časť Ružinov, Slovensko, Company ID (IČO): 55682987, Tax ID (DIČ): 2122067354, registered in the Commercial Register of the Bratislava III City Court, Section Sro, Insert No. 172207/B, e-mail: info@kniholap.sk
(hereinafter the “operator”)
1.3 Terms used in these terms and conditions:
- User – any person who has a registered account in Kniholap.
- Digital library – e-books that the operator makes available for reading in the app.
- Subscription – paid access to the digital library for a certain period.
- Marketplace – the part of Kniholap where users sell printed books to each other.
- Seller – a user who offers a book for sale on the marketplace.
- Buyer – a user who buys a book on the marketplace.
1.4 Legal relations not governed by these terms and conditions are governed by the law of the Slovak Republic, in particular the Civil Code and consumer protection regulations.
2. User account
2.1 An account is required to use the digital library and the marketplace. You can register with an e-mail and password, or through a Google or Apple account.
2.2 Kniholap may be used by persons over 15 years of age. A user under 18 may buy a subscription and trade on the marketplace only with the consent of a legal guardian.
2.3 The user is obliged to provide true information and to protect their login details. The user is responsible for activity carried out through their account, unless they prove that the account was misused without their fault.
2.4 One user may have one account. The account is non-transferable and the user must not lend or sell it to other persons.
2.5 The user can cancel the account at any time in the settings or by e-mail to info@kniholap.sk. Cancelling the account does not automatically cancel a subscription purchased through Apple or Google (see Article 3).
2.6 The operator may suspend or cancel an account if the user seriously or repeatedly breaches these terms and conditions, in particular in the case of fraud on the marketplace.
3. Digital library and subscription
3.1 The subscription gives the user access to the digital library for reading in the Kniholap app. Plans offered:
| Plan | Price | Period |
|---|---|---|
| Ochutnávka (Taster) | €6 | 1 week |
| Kniholap/ka (Bookworm) | €8 | 1 month |
| Srdce Kniholapu (Heart of Kniholap) | €72 | 1 year |
Prices are final. Current prices and the content of the plans are always shown in the app before purchase.
3.2 The subscription is purchased and paid for through the Apple App Store or Google Play. The terms of Apple or Google, respectively, also apply to payment, invoicing and refunds.
3.3 The subscription renews automatically for a further period of the same length and at the same price until the user cancels it. It must be cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
3.4 The subscription is cancelled in the Apple ID settings (Settings → your name → Subscriptions) or in the Google Play app (Payments & subscriptions). After cancellation, the user keeps access until the end of the period already paid for.
3.5 No free trial period is provided.
3.6 Withdrawal from the contract: The user, as a consumer, expressly agrees that access to the digital content is provided immediately after payment. The user acknowledges that they thereby lose the right to withdraw from the contract within 14 days. Refunds in exceptional cases are decided by Apple or Google according to their rules.
3.7 E-books are protected by copyright. The user may read them only for personal use in the Kniholap app. It is prohibited to copy them, download them outside the app, distribute them or make them available to other persons.
3.8 When the subscription ends, access to premium e-books ends, including books stored for offline reading. Bookmarks and favourite books remain saved in the account.
3.9 The range of books in the digital library may change, for example when a publisher’s licence ends. The operator does not guarantee the availability of a particular title throughout the subscription.
3.10 The operator may also give a subscription to a user as a gift (for example in a contest). A gifted subscription does not renew and ends on the stated day.
3.11 Books from the subscription can be read on at most two devices at a time linked to the account. A device can be replaced by another one at most twice in 30 days. Login details are intended exclusively for the user and must not be shared with other persons.
4. Book marketplace
4.1 On the marketplace, users sell printed books to each other. The operator does not sell the books; it only provides the platform and arranges the payment. The purchase contract is concluded directly between the seller and the buyer.
4.2 Sellers are usually private persons. A purchase from a private person is not subject to consumer rights against a trader, in particular the right to withdraw from the contract within 14 days without giving a reason and the 24-month warranty. The buyer’s rights where the book does not match its description are governed by points 4.10 to 4.13.
Seller’s obligations
4.3 The seller may offer only books that they own. Stolen books, illegal copies and goods other than books are prohibited.
4.4 For each listing, the seller must attach their own photographs of the specific copy and describe its condition truthfully. They must state all defects, for example a damaged cover, signatures, underlining, missing pages or water damage.
4.5 The seller sets the price of the book and the amount of postage. After the order is paid, the seller must send the book within 5 working days. If they do not send it within this period, the order is cancelled and the buyer gets all the money back.
4.6 The seller is responsible for the taxation of their income from sales. The operator may be required by law to report data about sellers to the tax authority.
Purchase and payment
4.7 The buyer pays the price of the book, the postage set by the seller and a transaction fee of €1 per order. The final amount is shown before the order is confirmed. The transaction fee is the operator’s remuneration for its intermediary services.
4.8 The buyer agrees to the condition of the book as described and shown in the photographs in the listing. The buyer acknowledges that they are buying a second-hand book, which may show normal signs of use.
4.9 The operator holds the payment and pays it out to the seller only after the buyer confirms in Kniholap that the book arrived in good order. If, within 5 working days of delivery, the buyer neither confirms receipt nor reports a problem, the order is considered confirmed.
When the book does not match the description
4.10 If the book materially does not match the description or the photographs, the buyer must report it within 5 working days of delivery through Kniholap or at info@kniholap.sk. With the report, the buyer attaches photographs of the book as received.
4.11 The operator compares the buyer’s photographs with the listing and may ask the seller for a statement. If it finds that the seller gave false information or concealed a defect, it refunds the buyer the full amount paid and the seller receives nothing.
4.12 In such a case, the seller may ask for the book to be returned. The seller bears the postage for the return and the buyer must send the book back within 5 working days of the request.
4.13 Normal signs of use that were visible in the photographs or stated in the description are not a reason for a refund.
4.14 The operator may block the account of a seller who repeatedly or deliberately misleads buyers.
5. Rules of conduct and user content
5.1 Users behave decently and in accordance with the law in Kniholap. In particular, it is prohibited to:
- publish offensive, hateful, vulgar or unlawful content,
- harass other users or send spam and advertising,
- arrange payments outside Kniholap in order to avoid the transaction fee,
- interfere with the operation of the website or app and exploit its errors.
5.2 Reviews and ratings must be truthful and based on the user’s own experience. By publishing a review, the user permits the operator to display it in Kniholap free of charge.
5.3 Anyone can report unlawful or inappropriate content at info@kniholap.sk. The operator will assess the report without undue delay and remove inappropriate content. It informs the author of the removal and its reason, and the author may object to the decision at the same address.
6. Liability, complaints and final provisions
6.1 The operator strives to keep Kniholap running without outages but does not guarantee its uninterrupted availability. Short-term downtime due to maintenance or technical problems is not a breach of contract.
6.2 The operator is not a party to the purchase contract on the marketplace and is not liable for damage caused by the seller or the buyer. This does not affect its obligations when resolving disputes under Article 4.
6.3 Complaints and claims regarding the operator’s services (for example, non-functioning access to the subscription) can be sent by the user to info@kniholap.sk. The operator will handle them within 30 days at the latest.
6.4 If the user, as a consumer, is not satisfied with how a complaint was handled, they may submit a proposal for alternative dispute resolution to the Slovak Trade Inspection (SOI, www.soi.sk) or another authorised body.
6.5 Supervision of compliance with consumer protection regulations is carried out by the Slovak Trade Inspection (SOI), Inspectorate for the Bratislava Region, Bajkalská 21/A, P. O. BOX 5, 820 07 Bratislava.
6.6 The operator may change these terms and conditions. It informs users of material changes by e-mail or in the app at least 14 days in advance. If the user does not agree with the change, they can cancel the account and the subscription.
6.7 The protection of personal data is governed by a separate document, Personal Data Protection, available at www.kniholap.sk/ochrana-osobnych-udajov.
6.8 These terms and conditions take effect on the date stated at the beginning of the document.
